‘Essential skills for the successful artist.’
This program is for participant between grades 8th to 11th.
The aim of this course is to give older students (grades 8-11, ages 13-17) the opportunity to develop their own artistic voice by engaging in a variety of painting and drawing activities that explore different styles, techniques and compositional devices. This course will be particularly useful for students wishing to study Art in grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 and beyond, but is suitable for everyone who enjoys art making and is interested in creating their own original artworks exploring a variety of styles.
The focus of the programme is ‘essential skills for the successful artist’ and the theme for all activities is “Learning to See and Create by Looking at Art”. Every session includes a brief teacher presentation on an aspect of Fine Art history – a style and/or artist, which is then followed by activities for participants in a relevant style, technique or compositional device.
Course Curriculum
- Explore creative options using the elements of art and principles of design
- Looking at art and how various artists explore and express their ideas
- Drawing from observation, including an excursion to an Istanbul gallery; studio based figure drawing with an artist’s model and studio based still life painting in watercolor, acrylic and oil pastel
- Visiting a local gallery for inspiration and creative ideas
- Create original artworks that employ various compositional devices in both representational and non representational art
- Using Art critique – giving (and receiving) constructive criticism of art work as a tool for learning
- Curate an exhibition of original works
- Use the target language (English) to talk about Art
