Inspired by the vibrant craft culture of Istanbul, this course is designed for budding jewelers aged 12-16. Over our sessions, young designers will immerse themselves in the basics of metalsmithing, learning to handle tools and materials with skill and creativity. The course is centered around planning and creating a three-piece brass jewelry collection. Using basic metal-smithing techniques such as riveting, wax-carving, casting and finishing, students will experience the hands-on joy of transforming a raw material into a piece of wearable art.

Instructor
Sera Boeno
Robert College alumna Sera Boeno is an art educator, practicing fine artist, and jewelry designer. She holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College with degrees in Neuroscience and Studio Art and an M.F.A in Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She focuses on curatorial practice, critical studies, and art education. Boeno has exhibited extensively across the U.S. She has taught, lectured, and led workshops on various traditional and experimental academic platforms including Dartmouth College, Maryland Institute College of Art, Johns Hopkins University, Kennedy Center for the Arts, Jefferson University, SUNY-Purchase, Moore College of Art and Design, and headed the visual arts departments at Terakki Foundation Schools, and Albanian College Tirana.
