This course aims to help young artists develop their skill in observational drawing through teacher led activities and supervised practice at various nearby locations in Istanbul. The overarching goal is to enable participants to develop their own artistic voice in creating original art works that are inspired by observational drawing of a variety of Istanbul scenes.
This afternoon session programme is suitable for older (14+) students who are keen to develop their artistic skills related to observational drawing in landscape, cityscape and urban life illustrations. Each session will visit a different nearby location in Istanbul – including art galleries, vibrant street scenes, and of course, the beautiful Bosphorus. Students will be encouraged to use pen, pencil, charcoal, oil pastel and watercolor for their work on location, and/or a broader collection of resources and materials for work subsequently completed in the studio, eg: acrylic paint or collage. All activities will be supervised and guided by the instructor who will also include brief presentations on relevant techniques (e.g. linear perspective) genres (e.g. urban landscape); styles (e.g. impressionism) and artists (e.g. Edward Hopper, Chagall, Lowry). Although most sessions will be out on location in Istanbul, some sessions will be studio based at Robert College. The overall schedule may be subject to change according to the weather and/or circumstances.
